navajo rugFoutz Trading Company

A federally licensed and bonded Navajo Indian Trading Company, operating at our present location in Shiprock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Indian reservation since 1982. We have been trading with the Navajo people for over 4 generations and more than 100 years.

Navajo weavers and craftsmen are known for incorporating the view and vision of Native American People. Our Navajo rugs are made in the same way as when the Spanish first taught Native Americans to weave blankets, using a simple upright loom. Today weavings are produced all over the Navajo Indian Reservation, encompassing parts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The styles that they use are most commonly named after the Trading Post in that area in which that pattern was developed. Two Grey Hills, Teec Nos Pos, Crystal, Wide Ruins, Burntwater, and Pine Springs are all trading posts. Yei rugs, Storm Pattern rugs, Pictorial rugs, and Germantown - Cheif rugs are not noted as being from any one area.

To assure you that you are getting only the most authentic Navajo arts and crafts , we can provide you with a photograph of the maker of every Navajo Indian made item that we sell. When you buy from us, be assured that you are getting the very best in authentic Native American arts and crafts.
